Major Stories

  • Markets rise on Greek bailout hopes and US data
    • Euro against Dollar, currently at $1.3162 per Euro
    • Stocks: FTSE All World is up 0.7%- it has gained 24% since Oct 2011; FTSE Asia Pacific rises for 9th consecutive week and is up 1.2%; FTSE Eurofirst 300 is up 0.6%
    • Debt: US 10-year demands decreased very slightly, pushing the yield up to 2.09% now
    • Commodities: Copper is up 0.2% to $3.80/pound; Gold has gained 0.3% and is at $1732/ounce; Brent Crude is at $119.74/barrel
  • L&G employee arrested by FSA
    • A 44-year old man at Legal& General has been arrested by FSA on allegations of insider trading
    • This is FSA’s 9th arrest in 2 years
  • Anglo American profits rise, but they play down takeover talks
    • Anglo American (metals producer) PLC’s profits have risen 23%
    • Anglo American PLC’s CEO has outlined an aggressive investment strategy for the next 2 years
